Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn has been fined by the NHL for his actions against Mark Scheifele of the Winnipeg Jets during their recent playoff game.

The league`s Department of Player Safety announced Friday that Benn received the maximum fine of $5,000 under the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The penalty was for roughing Scheifele during Game 5 of their second-round playoff series on Thursday night.

The incident occurred at the 13:28 mark of the third period. Following a scrum along the boards, Benn delivered a punch to Scheifele.

Scheifele, who had previously suffered a concussion in the playoffs, was being restrained by linesman Ryan Daisy when Benn struck him. Both players subsequently fell to the ice.

Commenting on the event Friday, Scheifele stated, “It was hard for me to understand either. My face hurts. There`s not much I can really say in this situation… Couldn’t really protect myself, my arms were pinned at my side, so definitely didn’t feel good.”

During the game, Benn was assessed a minor penalty for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct for the play.

Scheifele and his Jets teammate Brandon Tanev also received minor penalties for roughing on the same sequence, and Tanev was given a misconduct.

The Jets ultimately won Game 5 with a final score of 4-0.

The Dallas Stars currently hold a 3-2 lead in the series. Game 6 is scheduled for Saturday.
