Muhammad shot deep for a takedown and finally achieved an effective top position in half guard. Muhammad did significant damage before Della Maddalena returned to his feet with just over two minutes remaining. Della Maddalena landed lead elbows and a left hand, looking for a finish. Muhammad clinched to slow him down. Muhammad executed a big throw, but Della Maddalena continued to fight and scramble back to his feet. They exchanged wildly until the end, with Della Maddalena still looking for a finish and Muhammad demonstrating an incredible chin.
