Maxim Shabanov, a forward who was a sought-after free agent from the KHL, is set to join the New York Islanders organization.

The team officially announced on Wednesday that they have signed Shabanov to a one-year, entry-level contract.

The 24-year-old had a career-best season last year with Traktor Chelyabinsk in the KHL. He recorded 67 points, consisting of 23 goals and 44 assists, across 65 games. This performance marked new career highs in points, assists, and plus-minus rating, finishing the regular season at plus-17.

Shabanov continued his strong play into the postseason, adding 20 points (10 goals and 10 assists) in 21 playoff games. Traktor advanced deep into the Gagarin Cup Final run. He led the entire KHL playoffs in both goals scored and plus-minus rating, finishing with a plus-14.

Throughout his KHL regular-season career with Traktor, Shabanov accumulated a total of 150 points from 67 goals and 83 assists over 207 games. In 36 career KHL playoff appearances, he has tallied 31 points (13 goals and 18 assists).
