Iga Swiatek was surprisingly defeated at the Miami Open by world No.140, just days after experiencing threats from a spectator.
Following reports of a fan verbally abusing her during a practice session last Sunday in Florida, the world`s top-ranked female tennis player had her security detail strengthened.

The individual, who is alleged to have a history of online harassment towards the 23-year-old Polish player, was recorded verbally abusing her.
Subsequently, on Wednesday, Swiatek, a five-time Grand Slam winner aged 23, was defeated 6-2, 7-5 by Alexandra Eala of the Philippines, an unseeded 19-year-old wildcard, in the quarter-finals. This marks the most significant week in Eala`s career, achieving a milestone for her nation.
Player safety in tennis is under increased focus after Emma Raducanu was distressed last month due to stalking at the Dubai Tennis Championships.
Miami Open organizers stated, “The safety and security of all players and attendees at the tournament are of utmost importance to us.”
“We are continuously assessing potential threats and implementing appropriate responses.”
“To maintain the effectiveness of our security measures, we do not disclose specific details regarding our operations.”
A representative for Swiatek’s team commented, “Security is a paramount concern.”
“We are vigilant in monitoring online platforms to identify such issues.”
“While constructive criticism is acceptable, threats, hate speech, or disruptions during training are unacceptable and cannot be tolerated.”
“We reported the incident to the tournament organizers and the WTA, both of whom responded promptly and implemented additional security measures, for which we are very thankful.”
