Garry won a unanimous decision with official scorecards reading 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46 in his favor. However, this outcome doesn`t fully convey the fight`s tension or how close Prates came to pulling off an upset.
Garry appeared to be leading on the scorecards after the first three rounds. Prates, however, took control in Round 4 with a late surge of effective strikes and then largely dominated Round 5, applying heavy ground-and-pound that brought him extremely close to a potential knockout stoppage.
Despite this powerful late onslaught, Garry survived the final moments to secure the decision win.
Following the fight, numerous professional fighters shared their reactions on social media, with many expressing the belief that Prates was on the verge of finishing Garry. Sergio Pettis was among them, tweeting:
“Prates could have finished that shit. Bad decisions at the end.”
