Nikolaj Ehlers was simply seeking a fresh start. The star forward, who had played his entire career with the Winnipeg Jets, officially signed a six-year contract worth $51 million with the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.

In his first public comments since finalizing the move, Ehlers spoke with great affection for his previous club. “As I told them, they didn`t do anything wrong,” he explained to the media during a Zoom call on Saturday. “I was there for 10 years, and I truly loved my time there. I have deep affection for the organization, the people within it, and my teammates. They truly became like family.”
