The Winnipeg Jets are on the verge of making it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They could secure their spot as the first Canadian team even without playing a game.
For this to happen, the Jets need two specific results to go their way on Saturday: the St. Louis Blues must lose to the Chicago Blackhawks (regardless of how they lose), and the Vancouver Canucks must lose to the New York Rangers in regulation time.
If these two things happen, the Jets will clinch a playoff spot, becoming the second team in the NHL and the first in the Western Conference to do so this season.
Currently, only the Washington Capitals have already clinched a playoff spot. Both the Jets and Capitals are leading the league with 100 points and are competing for the Presidents` Trophy, awarded to the team with the best regular season record.
The Winnipeg Jets have never won the Presidents` Trophy before.
