“The Friday Four” presents a collection of thoughts and information on intriguing player stories from the world of the NHL.
Cale Makar, Colorado Avalanche
You can`t stop Cale Makar, you can only hope to contain him.
Despite Cale Makar`s best game in Game 6 (a goal and two assists, including an empty-netter, plus six shots), the Dallas Stars have generally done a decent job of neutralizing him in this series. In Game 7, which will take place on Saturday, Dallas`s success will largely depend on their ability to continue effectively containing Makar.
Makar is one of the league`s elite players, arguably among the top five in the world. This week he was nominated for the Ted Lindsay Award by his peers, as well as the Norris Trophy. There are many talented defensemen in the NHL, but Makar is in a class of his own. This season he scored 30 goals – the first time a defenseman has hit that mark since the 2008-09 season and only the second time in the last 30 years. Makar has also recorded 90 points for two consecutive seasons, and it`s reasonable to assume he could reach the 100-point mark one day.
