The Dallas Stars are in a position to become the second team from the Western Conference to secure their place in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Currently holding a comfortable second place in the Central Division, the Stars require certain outcomes in other games to guarantee their playoff entry.
If Dallas triumphs over Seattle on Saturday, they will clinch a playoff berth should St. Louis lose to Colorado, or if Calgary is defeated by Edmonton.
However, if Dallas secures only a single point by losing in overtime or a shootout, then either St. Louis or Calgary must lose their game in regulation time for Dallas to clinch.
This would establish the Stars as the second team from the Central Division to qualify for the playoffs, following Winnipeg, and the third team in the entire league after Washington secured their spot on March 21st.
Dallas currently trails Winnipeg by six points and leads Colorado by five. If the standings remain as they are until the end of the season, the Stars would host Colorado in the first round of the playoffs.
