The hockey community showed strong support for Mark Scheifele on Saturday following the unexpected passing of his father, Brad. After the Winnipeg Jets announced the sad news, fans quickly responded by making donations, often $55 – matching Scheifele`s jersey number – to the Winnipeg Jets` charitable foundation.

Shortly after the Jets were eliminated from the playoffs with a 2-1 loss to the Dallas Stars in Game 6, True North Sports + Entertainment spokesperson Krista Sinaisky confirmed that over $30,000 had been raised for the True North Youth Foundation through these specific $55 contributions.

In an email, Sinaisky expressed gratitude, stating, “This is a wonderful display of support from the hockey community on a very difficult day for the Jets family. Our True North Youth Foundation is extremely grateful.”

Notably, fans of the rival Dallas Stars also actively participated in this wave of donations.

Despite receiving the devastating news just hours before the crucial Game 6, Scheifele made the decision to play, going on to score Winnipeg`s only goal in the game.
