The welterweight match between Gilbert Burns and Michael Morales has been rescheduled. It was initially planned for UFC 315 on May 10th but will now be the main event for UFC Vegas 106 on May 17th. The event will take place at the APEX facility.
The announcement of this change was made during the UFC 314 broadcast on Saturday.
Gilbert Burns is currently ranked No. 7 in the welterweight division by MMA Fighting Global Rankings. Michael Morales, who is undefeated, is close to breaking into the top 15 rankings.
The reasons for moving the fight from Montreal`s UFC 315 to a Fight Night event in Las Vegas are not yet clear.
Burns, with a record of 22 wins and 8 losses, is aiming to break a three-fight losing streak. His recent losses were against current champion Belal Muhammad, and top welterweight contenders Jack Della Maddalena and Sean Brady. Since his title challenge against Kamaru Usman in 2021, Burns has won three out of seven fights, with an overall UFC record of 15 wins and 8 losses.
Morales, from Ecuador, boasts a perfect record of 17 wins and no losses. This upcoming fight is the most significant in his career. He has achieved five consecutive UFC victories since his successful appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series. His most recent win was a first-round finish against Neil Magny in August, which also earned him a bonus.
UFC 315 will now be headlined by a welterweight championship fight between Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena. The co-main event will feature Valentina Shevchenko defending her flyweight title against Manon Fiorot.
