Sports news ยป Gervonta Davis Arrested Following Father’s Day Incident Amid Custody Dispute

Prominent boxer and WBA lightweight champion Gervonta `Tank` Davis has reportedly been arrested in Florida on a battery charge. The arrest follows an alleged physical altercation involving an ex-girlfriend, which is reported to have occurred on Father`s Day.

According to initial reports originating from Florida, the incident took place on June 15th, coinciding, perhaps ironically, with Father`s Day, at the alleged victim`s residence in Doral. Law enforcement sources indicate the situation arose during an attempt by Davis, 30, to pick up children he shares custody of with the ex-girlfriend. An argument reportedly ensued regarding the children.

The Doral Police Department`s arrest report details that after expressing his intention not to take the children, Davis allegedly struck the woman in the back of the head before slapping her face as she reached for their daughter in the backseat.

Davis was subsequently arrested on Friday morning in Miami Beach in connection with this alleged battery.

This recent arrest adds to a history of legal challenges for Davis, particularly concerning allegations of domestic violence. Reports indicate this is the third time he has been cited following alleged assaults involving women. Notably, in February 2020, Davis was arrested on simple battery charges after being filmed in an altercation with an ex-girlfriend. Again, in December 2022, he faced domestic battery charges prior to a title defense, though those specific allegations were later reported to have been recanted.

This incident adds to a period marked by notable events for Davis; earlier this year, he defended his WBA title in a majority draw against Lamont Roach, a fight that included an unusual moment where Davis took a knee in the ninth round, claiming vision issues. The fight ultimately ended allowing Davis to keep his title.
