George Foreman, the former heavyweight champion and iconic figure in boxing, has died at the age of 76.
His family announced his passing on Friday night via his official Instagram account.
In a heartfelt statement, the family expressed their sorrow: “Our hearts are broken. It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the peaceful passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. on March 21, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was a dedicated preacher, husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and his life was characterized by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose.”
The statement continued, highlighting his multifaceted life: “A humanitarian, Olympian, and two-time heavyweight world champion, he was highly respected as a force for good, a disciplined man of conviction, and a protector of his family`s legacy, tirelessly defending his good name.”
The family also expressed gratitude for the support received, requesting privacy as they celebrate the extraordinary life of a man they were privileged to call their own.
Foreman`s professional boxing career spanned an impressive 76-5 record, with 68 knockouts and two heavyweight world titles. He famously fought against boxing legends such as Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali, and Evander Holyfield, and notably became the oldest heavyweight champion at 46 years old when he defeated Michael Moorer in 1994.
Beyond the ring, Foreman became widely known as the face of the George Foreman Grill, a highly successful product with over 100 million units sold since 1994. He was also inducted into both the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Hall of Fame.
