Olympic wrestling champion Gable Steveson is aiming for another NCAA Wrestling Championship, seeking his third title for the University of Minnesota in 2025.

Beyond college wrestling, Steveson, age 24, is considering a move to MMA, potentially after the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. He gained valuable experience training with Jon Jones for Jones’ fight against Stipe Miocic, which strengthened his interest in MMA.

Steveson brings a champion’s mentality to all his athletic pursuits and expects to compete at the highest level when he enters MMA.

“I’m young and motivated,” Steveson stated, expressing his desire to excel in any field he pursues.

While many wrestlers transition to MMA, rapid success isn’t guaranteed for everyone.

Bo Nickal, a three-time NCAA champion, has experienced remarkably fast success in MMA. With a perfect 7-0 record, including four UFC wins, his next fight is scheduled in May against Reinier de Ridder.

Nickal has handled the pressure of high expectations and is widely tipped for future UFC championship success.

Steveson is impressed by Nickal’s progress, seeing him as a role model for wrestlers entering MMA.

“Bo is exceptional,” Steveson commented, highlighting Nickal’s strong presence, wrestling credentials, and well-rounded skillset for UFC competition.

Steveson noted Nickal’s unique style, effective wrestling techniques in MMA, and cage control. He anticipates Nickal will continue to improve as he faces tougher opponents.

In addition to training with Jon Jones, Steveson has also trained at Kill Cliff FC in Florida, alongside notable fighters like Michael Chandler, Gilbert Burns, and Shavkat Rakhmonov.

Currently focused on wrestling, Steveson hopes to fully commit to MMA in the future and achieve a similar rapid rise to prominence as Nickal.

“I’ll let people judge my potential,” Steveson said, while expressing his own confidence in his ability to compete at a high level in MMA when he dedicates himself to it.

“When the timing is right, the opportunity will come, and I believe I will thrive and progress in MMA,” Steveson concluded.

For now, Steveson is focused on winning his third NCAA title, having made a strong start to the championships.
