PopCorn Duel se inspira en juegos como Windjammers, transformando la dinámica de Breakout en combates horizontales entre dos jugadores. Los enfrentamientos se enriquecen con “bolas con efectos diabólicos, misiles y armas especiales” que convierten rápidamente la pantalla en un campo de batalla estratégico. El mando Spinner, compatible con SGDK, busca evocar la esencia de “una época en la que todo estaba por inventar” en el desarrollo de videojuegos.
El juego se producirá en cartuchos físicos para Mega Drive. Cada cartucho no solo incluirá la versión PopCorn Duel, sino también una fiel recreación del PopCorn original de 1988, con sus gráficos de cuatro colores, y PopCorn 2026. Esta última es una versión remasterizada que aprovechará al máximo las capacidades técnicas de la consola de 16 bits de Sega para ofrecer gráficos superiores y una jugabilidad más elaborada y compleja.
Este proyecto subraya el afecto particular de Raynal por PopCorn, un título que incluso fue incluido como un easter egg en Little Big Adventure 2. Aunque el desarrollo de los juegos y los prototipos del mando están ya muy avanzados, la entrega de los cartuchos, figuras y demás material físico se estima para finales de 2027, haciendo de este un proyecto a largo plazo pero con una base sólida.

Although the game development and controller prototypes are already well underway, the delivery of the cartridges, figures, and other physical merchandise is estimated for late 2027, making this a long-term project with a solid foundation.
