Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has issued a statement addressing his involvement in a fatal motorcycle accident in his native Cameroon. The incident, which occurred over the Easter weekend, resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl who sustained injuries in the collision.

Reports indicate that Ngannou was driving a motorcycle that collided with the young woman in the Omnisports district of Yaounde. Following the accident, Ngannou reportedly transported her to a local medical facility for treatment.

Tragically, despite receiving medical attention, the 17-year-old girl could not be saved and later passed away at Yaounde General Hospital.

In a statement provided to TMZ Sports, Ngannou confirmed that he has been supporting the victim`s family since the incident, offering comfort and his deepest condolences during this profoundly difficult time. He stated, “From the very beginning, I have been by the family’s side, offering support, comfort, and deepest condolences during this time. I’ve met with them privately to share in their grief, and I will continue to stand with them every step of the way.”

He added, “I carry their pain with me, and my unwavering thoughts and support remain with them as they face this heartbreaking loss.”

Cameroonian authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

In other news regarding Ngannou`s recent activities, the 38-year-old fighter made his debut with the PFL organization this past October. His return to mixed martial arts after more than two years saw him secure a dominant first-round victory over Renan Ferreira. Prior to this MMA bout, Ngannou also competed in two high-profile boxing matches against Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, following his departure from the UFC as a free agent.

The fighter has also faced personal tragedy recently, having shared the sad news that his 15-month-old son, Kobe, passed away suddenly in April 2024.
