Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has been sentenced to five years in prison. This sentence is considered lenient compared to what prosecutors sought.
Velasquez`s sentencing on Monday follows his no-contest plea in April to multiple charges, including attempted premeditated murder, felony assault, and gun-related offenses, stemming from his 2022 arrest.
The charges are connected to a February 2022 incident where Velasquez pursued Harry Goularte, accused of molesting Velasquez`s son, in a high-speed car chase. During the chase, Velasquez fired shots at the vehicle, injuring Goularte`s stepfather, Paul Bender. Prosecutors had requested a prison term of 30 years to life.
