Former UFC fighter Molly McCann is poised to enter the professional boxing world.
Matchroom Boxing has officially announced the signing of the former UFC flyweight contender. As of now, the opponent and the date for her highly anticipated boxing debut have not yet been determined.
Matchroom Boxing Chairman Eddie Hearn shared his enthusiasm regarding the new acquisition. He remarked that it was “about time” that McCann, a former Amateur Boxing Association champion with recognized boxing prowess and global popularity stemming from her UFC career, joined the Matchroom roster.
McCann, aged 35, previously declared her retirement from mixed martial arts back in March, following a first-round submission defeat against Alexia Thainara. Known affectionately as “Meatball,” her MMA career was notable, including securing the inaugural Cage Warriors 125-pound championship in 2018 before transitioning to the UFC.
Her tenure in the UFC yielded varied outcomes. While she delivered several spectacular knockout finishes, became a prominent figure in her native England, and enjoyed a strong 6-2 run between 2019 and 2022 that placed her near title contention, a subsequent period of 1-4 with three losses coming via first-round submission ultimately marked the conclusion of her time with the promotion.
