ELMONT, N.Y. – Jonathan Huberdeau, reflecting on his team`s New York experience, simply exhaled after their latest victory.
“This road trip was something else,” Huberdeau remarked, ready to board their flight home. The team can take pride in achieving a franchise first: a three-game sweep through the New York tri-state area.
“With all the emotions running high, all you want is to relax with a good beer,” he added.
There was plenty to celebrate after their 4-3 overtime victory against a determined Islanders team. The game was packed with late-game drama, rivaling the suspense of a Law & Order episode.
Fresh off two comeback wins in Manhattan and New Jersey, the Flames once again needed to dig deep. Kyle MacLean`s fortunate rebound goal put the Islanders ahead 3-2 with just 2:51 remaining.
However, in a swift turn of events, Jonathan Huberdeau, battling through defensive pressure, deflected a shot from Rasmus Andersson past goalie Marcus Hogberg.
This goal breathed new life into the Flames.
A remarkable glove save by Dan Vladar in the final seconds of regulation paved the way for a tense overtime. Calgary controlled the puck for most of the extra period, culminating in Nazem Kadri’s game-winning goal.
