The Calgary Flames have secured the services of promising forward Aydar Suniev.
On Wednesday, the team officially announced the signing of the left winger to a three-year, entry-level contract. The deal carries an average annual value of $923,333.
According to reports, Suniev will join the Flames immediately, with the first year of his contract beginning this season.
Suniev, aged 20, was selected by Calgary in the third round of the 2023 NHL Draft. He has spent the past two seasons playing for the University of Massachusetts. In the 2024-25 season, he demonstrated his offensive capabilities by scoring 20 goals and accumulating 38 points in 35 games.
UMass recently faced elimination from the NCAA Hockey Championship tournament following a 2-1 defeat to Western Michigan University on Saturday.
Prior to his college career, Suniev, who is Russian-born, honed his skills in the British Columbia Hockey League with the Penticton Vees for two seasons.
