Middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis has responded to Khamzat Chimaev`s recent comments.
Rumors circulated on Sunday suggesting that du Plessis might be injured, potentially delaying a championship fight with Chimaev at UFC 317 in June. Chimaev reacted to these rumors on Twitter, calling du Plessis`s situation “bullsh*t.”
In response, du Plessis engaged with Chimaev`s post, defending himself and seemingly criticizing Chimaev in return.
Du Plessis pointed to the fighters` activity over the past two and a half years, implying Chimaev`s criticism was unfounded.
MMA Fighting contacted sources regarding the rumors and the UFC`s plans. One source indicated that more information about the middleweight title picture would be forthcoming, while another suggested the title defense is currently planned for the fall.
The UFC has not officially confirmed a du Plessis vs. Chimaev fight for any date, and there has been no public statement about du Plessis`s alleged injury.
Following Chimaev`s tweet, another contender, Caio Borralho, has called for a fight with Chimaev, even proposing an interim title bout.
