Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz is set to join the broadcast booth for UFC 315 in Montreal, stepping in for long-time commentator Joe Rogan. Rogan had previously stated he would not be traveling to Canada for the event, making good on that promise.
Cruz will serve as the third man on the team, alongside lead play-by-play commentator Jon Anik and fellow UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier.
Rogan`s decision not to travel internationally for commentary duties is well-known. He reiterated his stance regarding a potential trip to Canada during a recent podcast episode, humorously stating he`d “rather go to Russia.”
The comedian and podcast host`s remarks touched on a perceived political divide, referencing a past joke made by former President Donald Trump about potentially annexing Canada and turning it into the 51st U.S. state.
Rogan`s absence opens the door for Cruz to call the action for the upcoming pay-per-view event. UFC 315 is headlined by a welterweight title defense, with champion Belal Muhammad taking on Jack Della Maddalena.
The co-main event features another championship bout, as Valentina Shevchenko defends her flyweight title against French contender Manon Fiorot.
Rounding out the broadcast team in Montreal, Brendan Fitzgerald will be on-site to provide reports and interviews throughout the card.
UFC 315 is scheduled to take place on May 10th in Montreal.
