Sports news » Darnell Nurse Faces NHL Hearing for Cross-Check on Kings’ Byfield

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse may face disciplinary actions.

Nurse is scheduled for an NHL hearing on Tuesday night following his ejection from Monday`s game against the Los Angeles Kings. He was penalized for an illegal cross-check to Quinton Byfield`s head.

Midway through the second period, Nurse received a five-minute major and was ejected from the game, which Edmonton lost 5-0.

During a scramble in front of Oilers goalie Calvin Pickard while Edmonton was shorthanded, Nurse appeared to slam Byfield onto the ice and then cross-check him near the back of the head.

Byfield remained on the ice for a moment before getting up and skating off. He was evaluated for a concussion during the second intermission.

The on-ice officials assessed a major penalty and game misconduct, which were confirmed after review.

Kings forward Phillip Danault commented on the Oilers` play during an intermission interview, stating, “I think they just have their B squad in trying to hurt us.”

Oilers forward Corey Perry dismissed Danault`s notion after the game.

Corey Perry responds to Phillip Danault`s claim that the Oilers were trying to injure Kings players, stating they are not out there to hurt anyone, referencing recent events.
