Conor McGregor is making an extraordinary commitment to his return to the octagon, reportedly dedicating himself entirely to his training camp. After a five-year hiatus, “The Notorious” is set to headline UFC 329 in a highly anticipated rematch against Max Holloway.
McGregor is coming back with ambitious plans and is reportedly sparing no effort to make a significant impact on July 11th. He has stated that he and his team are fully immersed in their preparation, emphasizing that they are “living, breathing, and sleeping in the gym.”
Their initial encounter in 2013 saw McGregor emerge victorious via unanimous decision, even with an ACL tear during the fight. Now, at UFC 329, he intends to demonstrate his evolution as a mixed martial artist and achieve another win against Holloway, whom he regards as the UFC’s top boxer.
McGregor expressed his anticipation for the rematch, stating, “The opponent is a man that I’ve beaten before. Our last bout was martial arts mastery by yours truly, so I plan on doing it again. I plan on showing my growth and my improvements in there.”
McGregor’s manager has indicated that “The Notorious” aims to remain active and fight frequently following the Holloway bout.
While many anticipate a striking battle, Max Holloway is reportedly preparing for all possibilities. Following his BMF title loss and a comprehensive defeat by Charles Oliveira earlier this year, Holloway appears determined to be exceptionally well-prepared for McGregor. Recent training footage suggests he is not only refining his striking but also enhancing his grappling abilities.
Ilia Topuria Backs McGregor to Defeat Holloway
Ilia Topuria, the UFC’s two-division champion, believes Conor McGregor has what it takes to overcome Max Holloway at UFC 329, despite his extended break from the sport. In a recent interview, Topuria shared his prediction:
“I think Conor is going to win.”
Topuria, 29, further stated that if McGregor wins and has another fight remaining on his contract, he would be eager to face him next.
“If he [McGregor] wins and he has one more fight, we could end up having that fight [Me vs. Conor].”
It remains unclear whether McGregor has signed a new multi-fight contract with the UFC prior to his comeback. Some reports suggest he has declined a new deal and has only two fights left before becoming a free agent.
