The Calgary Flames and their fans received positive news on Friday regarding Connor Zary`s injury.
Despite a 5-2 loss to the Dallas Stars that impacted their playoff aspirations, the biggest concern was the condition of Zary after an incident with Mikko Rantanen. There were initial fears that Zary might have suffered a broken leg.
However, reports indicate that Zary did not break his leg. He is scheduled for further imaging to assess the extent of any knee damage, but early indications suggest the injury is not as severe as initially feared.
Zary sustained the injury during an awkward collision with Rantanen in the third period and was unable to continue playing.
During the third period, Rantanen lost his balance and slid into Zary along the boards. Zary`s leg appeared to get caught, causing his knee to bend at an unnatural angle as he fell.
The 23-year-old visibly showed his pain, clutching his left knee. He remained on the ice receiving attention from trainers before being helped off by his teammates.
Adding to the concern for the Flames was Zary`s previous knee injury in January, which sidelined him for almost a month.
This season, the Saskatoon native has contributed 13 goals and 26 points in 53 games.
