The Columbus Blue Jackets are hoping the Montreal Canadiens can help them get into the playoffs. In a unique move, a local news station in Columbus is also trying to boost their chances.
WSYX ABC 6, a local ABC News affiliate, sent messages to two former Blue Jackets who now play for the Carolina Hurricanes – Jack Roslovic and Eric Robinson. They asked them to play hard against Montreal on Wednesday. A Canadiens loss is needed for Columbus to have a shot at the playoffs.
Robinson, a forward, played his first seven NHL seasons in Columbus and even scored his first NHL goal against Montreal. The news station highlighted this connection in their message.
The message to Robinson mentioned, `Wouldn`t it be a great story if you helped the Hurricanes win and in turn helped out your old Blue Jackets teammates against the team you scored your first goal on?`
However, the Hurricanes have already secured their playoff spot. They`ve also called up four players from their AHL team for the game against Montreal. This means it`s uncertain if Robinson and Roslovic will even play.
In their message to Roslovic, who played four years in Columbus, the news station wrote, `…there might be a temptation to rest players, but the city of Columbus humbly asks you to play your best for the 614 area code once again.`
It`s unusual for local news to directly ask former players for help, but in this case, they are trying everything they can.
