Cesc Fabregas Open to Managing Real Madrid

Sports news » Cesc Fabregas Open to Managing Real Madrid

Cesc Fabregas, now a manager, has not dismissed the idea of potentially managing Real Madrid in the future. Despite his strong ties to Barcelona, having come through their La Masia academy and played for the senior team for three seasons, Fabregas did not express immediate opposition to the prospect.

Fabregas has been making a significant impact with Como in Serie A, leading the club to their first-ever European qualification. While there have been reports of interest from top clubs, including former team Chelsea and Real Madrid, he indicated in a recent interview with Cadena Cope that he is not planning on leaving his current role soon.

“I am a shareholder in the club (Como), I saw a project to start coaching, I have a contract and I am very relaxed… I am in a place that helps me grow and I am very happy. I am the one who makes the signings.”

Fabregas Not Against Taking the Real Madrid Job

When discussing managers he admires, Fabregas praised Luis Enrique’s recent work. However, he revealed that if there was one manager he would have liked to work with as a player, it would be Carlo Ancelotti, citing the Italian’s strong interpersonal skills. Fabregas stated that he would not rule out managing at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“I don’t have a ‘red line.’ One ‘red line,’ and I’ve been very clear about this from the beginning, is that I wouldn’t want to be an assistant… for example. I am clear that I want to be a head coach. The other thing (the possibility of Real Madrid)? I haven’t even thought about it or considered it. I haven’t had time for anything.”

How Fabregas Would Handle the Vinicius Junior Incident

Following a difficult season for Real Madrid, some have pointed to Vinicius Junior’s reaction to being substituted by Xabi Alonso during El Clasico as a contributing factor to their struggles. Fabregas was asked how he would have managed such a situation.

“What happened with Xabi Alonso and Vinicius… it’s a moment where you have to be prepared to make a good decision, and above all, what makes you a better coach is that you have to think about the team first. Nobody is better than the team, nobody is stronger than the team, and nobody is above the team.”

“If you have a united and strong group, whoever wants to cause disruption can do whatever they want; you will have the group’s respect, and you will always do better in the long run.”

Fabregas also mentioned that he had not discussed Nico Paz’s future with Real Madrid, but believes another year at Como would benefit the player. The Italian club has signed several players from Real Madrid Castilla, having visited their facilities in recent seasons.
