The Washington Capitals announced Saturday they have signed forward Justin Sourdif to a two-year contract valued at $1.65 million in total. This agreement comes after the team acquired Sourdif in a trade earlier in June.
Sourdif was traded to the Capitals by the Florida Panthers on Thursday. The Panthers received a second-round pick in 2026 and a sixth-round pick in 2027 in exchange for the forward.
The 23-year-old spent the 2024-25 season primarily with the Charlotte Checkers, Florida`s American Hockey League affiliate. He recorded 34 points (16 goals and 18 assists) in 43 regular-season games with the team.
In the Calder Cup playoffs, Sourdif added 10 points (four goals and six assists) over 18 appearances. The Checkers reached the Calder Cup Final before ultimately falling to the Abbotsford Canucks in six games.
Across his AHL career, Sourdif has played in 149 games, accumulating a total of 96 points, consisting of 35 goals and 61 assists.
A native of Richmond, British Columbia, Sourdif has also played in four NHL games to date. This includes one game during the past season where he scored his first career NHL goal.
Sourdif was originally selected by the Florida Panthers in the third round, 87th overall, in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
The two-year contract carries an average annual value (AAV) of $825,000.
