RALEIGH, N.C. — Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson left Wednesday night`s game against the Carolina Hurricanes due to an upper-body injury. Coach Spencer Carbery didn`t provide much information about Thompson`s condition after the Capitals` 5-1 defeat.
“He will be further evaluated when the team returns to Washington,” Carbery stated.
Charlie Lindgren replaced Thompson in goal at the start of the second period. Thompson had allowed three goals on 12 shots in the first period. The specific moment and cause of Thompson`s injury remain unclear.
Thompson, 28, has been a standout performer this season and is considered a potential contender for the Vezina Trophy, awarded to the NHL`s best goalie. In his debut season with Washington, he has achieved 31 wins in 42 appearances. His strong performance led to a six-year, $35.1 million contract extension in late January.
Lindgren played on consecutive nights, having secured a win for the Capitals against Boston on Tuesday. After stepping in for Thompson against the Hurricanes, Lindgren conceded two goals from 19 shots.
