The Vancouver Canucks faced a setback in their Saturday game against the New York Rangers as key forwards Elias Pettersson and Nils Hoglander were injured.
Both players were ruled out for the remainder of the game due to separate injuries.
Pettersson left midway through the second period, appearing uncomfortable after a faceoff. He went to the tunnel and did not return for the third period, having played only 7:50.
Hoglander was also absent at the start of the third period, and it was unclear when he was injured. He played just 7:03 of ice time before leaving the game.
Following the game, head coach Rick Tocchet told reporters that he had no update on either player`s condition. However, he mentioned the possibility of recalling a center from AHL Abbotsford.
Sportsnet`s Elliotte Friedman reported on Hockey Night in Canada that the players are still being evaluated. The team hopes to have more information before their next game against the New Jersey Devils on Monday.
Pettersson has had a less productive season with 15 goals and 45 points in 63 games but had been on a five-game point streak leading up to Saturday`s game.
Hoglander has recorded six goals and 21 points in 65 games, including six points in his last five games.
