ELMONT, N.Y. — The Vancouver Canucks celebrated their win Wednesday night with a fitting victory song, “New York, New York,” chosen by team DJ Conor Garland.
Despite their usually reliable defense faltering, the Canucks turned up their offensive game to propel their playoff push in the National Hockey League. This strategic shift proved effective.
In an unexpected turn, the Canucks` 5-2 victory saw goals from players not typically known for scoring, including checking center Teddy Blueger, minor-league Aatu Raty, and defensive defenseman Derek Forbort. Forbort`s goal broke a 2-2 tie late in the second period, part of a four-goal surge in the final 26 minutes that secured the win against the Islanders.
Notably, Forbort, who recently ended a long scoring drought, has now scored twice in his last 10 games.
