Canucks insist Quinn Hughes not involved in decision to hire Adam Foote

Sports news » Canucks insist Quinn Hughes not involved in decision to hire Adam Foote

Although Quinn Hughes might be the team`s most important player, the Vancouver Canucks management insists he was not involved in the selection of the new head coach.

At Adam Foote`s introductory press conference on Thursday, where he spoke for the first time as head coach, both he and General Manager Patrik Allvin clearly stated that the captain was not part of the process and that neither had spoken to Hughes until the hiring was officially announced.

Foote has worked closely with Hughes since joining the team as an assistant in January 2023, serving as a defensive coach under Rick Tocchet`s staff. The defenseman had previously called Foote “the best coach I`ve ever had.”

Although they have established a good rapport, Foote emphasized that his relationship with Hughes is no different from his relationships with the rest of the team`s players.
