Zack Bolduc is experiencing a mix of emotions as he joins the Montreal Canadiens, the team he grew up supporting.
On Tuesday, prior to the opening of NHL free agency, the Canadiens acquired Bolduc from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for defenceman Logan Mailloux.
Speaking during a video conference, the forward commented on the move: “I met some great people and made friends for life in St. Louis. But on the other hand, the Montreal Canadiens are the team I watched while growing up. I`m super excited.”
Bolduc later revealed he was caught completely by surprise by the trade.
He described it as strange when he received a call from Blues general manager Doug Armstrong shortly after completing a workout in Quebec City, where he trains during the off-season.
Sports analysts have weighed in on this transaction between Montreal and St. Louis, which involved two former first-round draft selections. Discussions have focused on how Bolduc fits within the Canadiens` structure and how he has successfully adapted his playing style to become an effective NHL player. Bolduc reiterated his shock at the unexpected trade but emphasized his eagerness to play for his childhood favourite club.
