Cale Makar has reached another impressive milestone in his young career.
The Colorado Avalanche star scored his 30th goal of the season on Thursday with a power-play goal in the second period of a 7-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Makar, 26, is only the second defenseman in the 21st century to reach the thirty-goal mark, following Mike Green who scored 31 for the Washington Capitals in 2008-09.
He is the ninth defenseman in NHL history to achieve this milestone. Besides Green, the only other defensemen to score 30 goals in a season are Ray Bourque, Paul Coffey (four times), Kevin Hatcher, Phil Housley, Bobby Orr (four times), Denis Potvin (three times), and Doug Wilson.
Coffey holds the record with 48 goals in 1985-86.
Makar also contributed two assists against the Blue Jackets, bringing his season total to a league-leading 90 points.
With this win, the Avalanche secured their place in the playoffs.
