Following his submission loss to Jean Silva at UFC 314 on Saturday, Bryce Mitchell addressed the defeat, offering no excuses.
Their fight quickly became a highlight of the event, with Silva demonstrating dominance from the outset. He showcased a dynamic performance, culminating in a second-round submission victory via a ninja choke that put Mitchell unconscious.
Before the submission, Silva impressed with his striking and also displayed superior grappling skills, effectively neutralizing Mitchell`s offense in nearly every exchange, leading to the submission win.
After the event, Mitchell turned to social media to comment on his loss and the unexpected outcome.
“I want to thank everyone for their support and let you all know I’m doing fine,” Mitchell stated on Instagram. “Thank God, I`m unharmed. No lost teeth or broken bones, which I`m grateful for. I gave it my all; I couldn`t have fought harder, though perhaps smarter.”
“I’m going to make adjustments. He put me to sleep, and I had nothing more to offer. I take some solace in knowing I tried my best, but I must improve. That`s the key takeaway here: improvement.”
Saturday`s fight came at the end of a challenging period for Mitchell. He had transitioned from a popular figure to a controversial one after making offensive remarks on a podcast, including defending Adolf Hitler and denying the Holocaust.
At the pre-fight press conference, Mitchell faced an unfamiliar experience: he was booed by the audience when he first encountered Silva.
Despite this, Mitchell stated that on fight night, he felt the support and affection from fans who remained loyal.
“I’ve never experienced such an outpouring of support,” Mitchell expressed. “It’s been an incredibly intense week, almost indescribable.”
“I genuinely believed I would win, 100 percent. It was the biggest fight of my career, and the sudden hype made me feel like God had chosen me to win, but it didn`t turn out that way.”
This submission loss marks Mitchell`s third defeat in his last five fights, a record that includes a knockout loss to Josh Emmett in 2023.
Despite the sting of defeat, Mitchell pledged to continue improving and return to the UFC stronger.
“I’m just going to keep fighting, it’s all I can do,” Mitchell concluded. “It’s what we all must do. Learn from every loss and keep fighting. That’s my plan.”
