The Boston Bruins have secured one of their promising young defensemen, agreeing to a two-year contract extension with blueliner Mason Lohrei worth a total of $6.4 million.
This new agreement comes as Lohrei`s two-year entry-level contract was set to expire on July 1, which would have made him a restricted free agent.
The 24-year-old completed his first full season with the Bruins in 2024-25, appearing in 77 games. During this time, he achieved career highs in goals (five) and assists (28), accumulating a total of 33 points. Lohrei proved effective on the power play, ranking second on the team with 16 power-play points. He also led all Boston defensemen in assists, overall points, and power-play points.
However, the six-foot-five defenseman faced challenges in the defensive zone, finishing the season with a league-worst plus-minus rating of -43.
Lohrei, originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was drafted by the Bruins 58th overall in the second round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft after playing at Ohio State University.
