Despite recent successes for the St. Louis Blues, concerns are rising about the condition of one of their key offensive players.
Blues forward Dylan Holloway was sidelined for the remainder of Thursday`s game versus the Pittsburgh Penguins due to a lower body injury. He played for 5 minutes and 22 seconds in the first period before the team announced his inability to continue.
It appears Holloway sustained the injury following a hit from Penguins` forward Rutger McGroarty with 2 minutes and 51 seconds left in the first period.
After a scoring opportunity, McGroarty delivered a hit to Holloway in the Pittsburgh zone, causing the Blues forward to immediately head to the bench. Holloway briefly returned for another shift at the end of the period but did not come back from the locker room for the second period.
Blues head coach Jim Montgomery did not provide any updates on Holloway`s condition after their 5-4 victory.
At 23 years old, Holloway is having a breakout season in his debut year with the Blues. Going into Thursday`s game, he had accumulated 26 goals and 37 assists over 76 games, marking career highs in all categories.
This past offseason, the Blues extended offer sheets to both Holloway and Philip Broberg. After the Edmonton Oilers chose not to match, both players signed two-year contracts with St. Louis.
Holloway`s impressive performance has been instrumental in the surging Blues` return to Western Conference playoff contention. Riding an 11-game winning streak, the Blues currently hold the first wild card spot.
