The second game between the Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights resulted in a thrilling overtime victory for the Oilers, although the win was not without significant controversy.
Moments before Leon Draisaitl scored the winning goal in overtime on a two-on-one play with an assist from Connor McDavid, the Oilers benefited from a decision by the officials where no penalty was called. This non-call unfortunately led to an injury for a veteran player on the Golden Knights.
The play involved Oilers forward Viktor Arvidsson and Golden Knights defenseman Brayden McNabb. As they chased the puck in the Vegas defensive zone, Arvidsson appeared to deliver a shove, which sent the 34-year-old McNabb forcefully into the end boards.
Despite the hard contact and subsequent injury concern for McNabb, the referees did not assess a penalty on the play.
