Biaggio Ali Walsh entered PFL 7 as the fight card`s biggest favorite by a considerable margin, but he ultimately sustained his initial professional defeat.
The grandson of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali arrived at Friday night`s Chicago event listed as an immense favorite, with odds reaching as high as -1600 on the betting boards, for his bout against Ronnie Gibbs. Gibbs, a 31-year-old local competitor in only his second pro fight, delivered a massive upset to the MMA world by securing a second-round arm triangle choke submission.
Early in the contest, within the first minute, Ali Walsh knocked Gibbs down with a powerful right hand; however, Gibbs recovered well. It seemed for a period that it was only a matter of time before Ali Walsh would finish the fight, having hurt his opponent multiple times during the opening round.
Gibbs successfully navigated to the second round and managed to take Ali Walsh to the canvas. On the ground, Gibbs proved to have the advantage, which culminated in his memorable victory.
With this win, Gibbs improves his professional standing to 2-0, with both victories coming via finish. His pro debut occurred in March, where he earned a second-round TKO victory under the Chicago Cagefighting Championship banner.
Following this loss, Biaggio Ali Walsh`s eight-fight win streak within PFL competition has been snapped, and he will need to regroup and adjust his strategy moving forward.
