Ben Rothwell is set to contend for a second BKFC title as the promotion makes its inaugural appearance in Australia.
BKFC confirmed on Tuesday that the event scheduled for July 18 in Australia will feature Ben Rothwell challenging Alex Simon for the first-ever BKFC super heavyweight championship. Rothwell, who holds an MMA record of 37-14, previously secured a BKFC heavyweight title by defeating Mick Terrill via knockout in just 36 seconds back in January.
Alex Simon will make his bare-knuckle fighting debut with the opportunity to claim a championship in his native Australia. Simon, known for his background in powerlifting, has engaged in combat sports occasionally since 2018. His record includes a 1-1 stint in MMA, and his most recent appearance was in a boxing match in August 2023, which ended in a fifth-round TKO (retirement) loss against Bryce Jones.
Co-Main Event
The co-main event will feature Australian favorite Bec Rawlings facing Jade Masson-Wong in a flyweight contest. Rawlings, a veteran of MMA, ended a three-fight losing streak in the BKFC circle this past January by securing a unanimous decision victory over Taylor Starling. Masson-Wong holds a 3-2 record in BKFC and is coming off a split decision defeat to Christine Ferea.
The event, designated as BKFC 79, is scheduled to be held at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, on July 18.
