FC Barcelona is poised for a summer transfer window that could see both strategic acquisitions and significant player departures. While Director of Football Deco’s strategy has largely focused on retaining core talent, the upcoming period may necessitate a shift, with sales playing a crucial role in funding new signings.
The Catalan club is reportedly nearing compliance with financial fair play regulations, aiming to be within their salary limit for the first time in three years. According to President Joan Laporta, they are just €12 million shy of this target. Achieving this milestone would enable them to fully reinvest any funds generated from player sales back into the squad.
Among the players potentially on the chopping block is left-back Alejandro Balde. Reports from RadioMarca indicate that Barcelona is prepared to entertain offers for the defender, viewing him as a non-essential asset to the squad. Although a departure isn’t guaranteed, serious bids will be considered. While Paris Saint-Germain previously showed interest, that move now appears improbable given Nuno Mendes’ established role at the French club.
Concerns regarding Balde’s future and performance have been surfacing for some time. The club is reportedly dissatisfied with the contributions from both full-back positions this season. Consequently, several top European clubs, including Inter Milan and Manchester United, have been linked with the Spanish international in recent months. Balde’s current contract extends until 2028, which means Barcelona will face a decision soon: either secure a new long-term deal for him, facilitate a sale this summer, or risk a depreciated transfer value in the future.
