While Barcelona had previously shown interest in Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni, their focus appears to have shifted. Initial reports had identified Gvardiol as a player who impressed the Catalan club, though his valuation at the time was considered prohibitive.
According to Cadena Cope, Barcelona is actively working on a deal for Gvardiol. However, there’s a discrepancy regarding his contract, with the report mistakenly stating he has only one year remaining. In reality, Gvardiol’s contract with Manchester City extends until 2028, giving him two more years on his current deal. Some speculation suggests this interest might be an offer presented to Barcelona rather than a proactive pursuit by the club.
Real Madrid Also Linked with Gvardiol
These developments emerge shortly after rival club Real Madrid was also reportedly offered the opportunity to sign the Croatian international. It’s possible that Gvardiol is evaluating his options, as there have been no indications of an imminent contract renewal with Manchester City. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are in the market for a central defender this summer, though it is believed to be a higher priority for Los Blancos.
