Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog is progressing towards his return to the NHL.
The Avalanche announced on Wednesday that Landeskog has been sent to the Colorado Eagles in the AHL for a conditioning assignment.
Landeskog has been sidelined since the 2022 Stanley Cup Final due to several injuries. However, he has been practicing with the Avalanche recently, aiming to return during the playoffs.
Avalanche coach Jared Bednar indicated that Landeskog might play in some AHL games before the end of the season, and this assignment confirms that plan.
“He has increased his time on the ice and the intensity of his workouts,” Bednar said on Monday. “We are monitoring his response daily and planning accordingly.”
Landeskog, 32, has played 738 games over 11 NHL seasons, recording 248 goals and 571 points.
