AS Monaco Aims to Negotiate Lower Price for Ansu Fati from Barcelona

Sports news » AS Monaco Aims to Negotiate Lower Price for Ansu Fati from Barcelona

Ansu Fati’s 14-year tenure at Barcelona appears to be nearing its conclusion, with a permanent move away being the likely outcome. After spending two of the past three seasons on loan, the young forward is expected to depart the club he joined from Sevilla as a child on a permanent basis for the first time.

Fati joined AS Monaco on loan this past summer. Following a season where he saw limited playing time under Hansi Flick, struggling to get minutes ahead of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, the 23-year-old has had an inconsistent season in Ligue 1. He has been hampered by injuries, accumulating just 1,199 minutes of play across 28 appearances. Despite these challenges, he has managed to score 11 goals, averaging a goal every 109 minutes.

AS Monaco intends to make Ansu Fati’s transfer permanent by exercising their €11 million buy option this summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona is also expected to retain a sell-on clause, estimated to be around 20%, should the deal proceed. Fati is currently under contract with Barcelona until 2028 and is one of the highest earners at Camp Nou.

However, reports from Spain suggest that further negotiations are on the horizon. According to Marca, Monaco plans to engage in further discussions with Barcelona at the end of the season to secure a lower purchase price. It is widely accepted that Fati will not return to Barcelona, and the Catalan club is eager to finalize the deal before the end of June to positively impact their salary cap calculations.

This sentiment is echoed by MD journalist Gabriel Sans, who indicated that Monaco’s approach would be contingent on the agreed-upon terms. Their position is that either the transfer fee should be reduced, or Fati’s wages should be lowered. It is possible that the resolution will involve Fati himself reaching an agreement with Barcelona regarding his contract.
