Barcelona is aiming to significantly lower their wage bill this summer to facilitate the registration of new signings. While high earners like Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Robert Lewandowski are likely to depart, Ansu Fati is another player who could be on the move.
The Catalan club hopes to finally offload Fati this summer, a goal they’ve pursued for the past three years. He is currently on loan at AS Monaco, who have expressed interest in a permanent transfer, though the deal faces complexities.
Monaco holds an €11 million buy option for Fati as part of their agreement with Barcelona. However, Fati’s father, Bori Fati, has indicated that any decision regarding a permanent move rests with Hansi Flick, according to WinWin (via Sport).
“We don’t know yet, because he has a contract (with Barcelona) until 2028, that’s for sure. We don’t know, but we would like him to stay at Monaco, because he is happy there. It depends on Flick. He has not spoken to him yet.”
Fati Not Part of Barcelona’s Future Plans
It’s improbable that Flick will make squad decisions before Barcelona secures the La Liga title, which could happen as early as next weekend. Nevertheless, sporting director Deco’s search for a new left winger, in anticipation of Marcus Rashford potentially returning to Manchester United, suggests Fati is not factored into next season’s plans.
While a potential return for Marcus Rashford, whom Barcelona might only accept on another loan, could have opened a pathway back for Fati, Deco’s pursuit of a replacement indicates that the 23-year-old is not considered for current or future seasons.
