British tennis icon Andy Murray, 38, has embarked on a completely new career path following the conclusion of his coaching arrangement with Novak Djokovic.
During his prime, Murray was one of the sport`s leading figures. Over his 19-year career, he secured numerous ATP Tour titles, including two historic Wimbledon victories and a US Open championship. He officially retired from professional tennis in 2024 after representing Team GB at the Olympic Games in Paris.
Earlier this year, he unexpectedly took on the role of Novak Djokovic`s coach. However, the partnership was brief, with the pair amicably parting ways this month.
Now, Murray is entering the world of venture capitalism. He has accepted a position as an associate partner at Redrice Ventures, a London-based investment firm with diverse business interests, such as companies in cat food and reusable water bottles.
This is not Murray`s first involvement with the firm, as he previously collaborated with them in 2018 on a co-investment project related to the sportswear company Castore. Beyond this new role, Murray already manages several other business ventures, including a luxury country house hotel in Scotland, a padel tennis business, and the crowdfunding platform Seedrs.
Reflecting on his decision, Murray described the difficulty of stepping away from tennis, a sport that had been central to his life for so long, and the necessity of finding something new to occupy his time and energy. He noted that he has seen other athletes struggle with their identity after retirement if they lack other interests immediately after their sports career ends.
Murray, who is only 38, feels he has a long time ahead of him after retiring from playing. He stated that he always planned to dedicate more time to his business interests once his tennis career concluded and is currently enjoying working on these projects. He believes the work ethic and singular focus required for success in tennis will serve him well in his new business endeavors.
