CALGARY – It really felt like a farewell press conference.
Rasmus Andersson, being at the center of discussions about his future throughout the season, concluded his ninth season in Calgary on Saturday with a statement that sounded as if he understands that his time with the Calgary Flames is coming to an end.
“I want to be honest, but I don`t know what will happen,” said Andersson, whose six-year, $27.3 million contract is nearing its end.
“But I hope the fans know that I loved every second here and never took it for granted.
There are many good young players in the organization, and, you know, there can only be a certain number of right-handed defensemen on the team.
I wish I could say, `Yes, I`m signing a contract on July 1st` or `I`m getting traded on July 1st,` but I can`t at the moment. I just don`t know.”
