Alvaro Arbeloa Reflects on His Real Madrid Legacy as His Departure Approaches

Sports news » Alvaro Arbeloa Reflects on His Real Madrid Legacy as His Departure Approaches

As Real Madrid prepares for their match against Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, it’s anticipated to be one of Alvaro Arbeloa’s final games as manager. Following a season without trophies, his position is likely to be reassessed, with reports suggesting Jose Mourinho could be considered as his replacement.

In a recent interview, Arbeloa discussed his experience managing Real Madrid and whether he feels his standing has been strengthened or weakened by the season.

“I stepped in four months ago. I was a coach in the First Federation, and now I’m leaving having coached Real Madrid, having been a First Division coach, and having participated in Champions League matches. I doubt many coaches can claim the same. For me, these past four months have been an incredibly valuable and educational experience. Even facing you all feels like a masterclass. I will leave with a clear conscience when this concludes.”

Arbeloa: The Affection of Real Madrid Fans is Important to Me

When asked about how he hopes to be remembered should he depart in the summer, Arbeloa shared his sentiments.

“Real Madrid has millions of fans, and naturally, opinions will vary. What truly matters to me is the affection I feel from the fans. At 43 years old, I’ve dedicated 20 years to Real Madrid, serving as a youth player, a first-team player, an ambassador, and a youth coach. These have been many years in what I consider my home. I feel a great deal of affection from the fans, and that’s what I cherish.”

Arbeloa on the Potential Return of Mourinho

Arbeloa also addressed the reported dressing room challenges faced by Real Madrid in recent months and commented on the possibility of Jose Mourinho returning to the club as his successor.

“I don’t understand the notion of an ‘ungovernable’ dressing room, and I don’t agree with it. That’s not how I would describe the Real Madrid dressing room. When the club makes a decision regarding the coach for the next season, they will announce it when they deem it appropriate. For me, as a player, and especially as a Real Madrid player, Mourinho is number one. I felt that a month ago, and I continue to feel it. Jose is, and always will be, ‘one of us.’ If he’s here next season, I’ll be very happy to welcome him back home.”
