Both Alex Perez and Steve Erceg are looking to get back in the win column as they have been booked for a flyweight clash.
The UFC officially confirmed on Sunday that these two seasoned contenders will meet at UFC Vegas 109, scheduled for August 9th. The event is set to be headlined by a previously announced middleweight bout between Roman Dolidze and Anthony Hernandez.
Perez and Erceg are currently ranked among the top 15 flyweights, with Perez holding the No. 10 spot and Erceg at No. 12 according to the MMA Fighting Global Rankings. However, both fighters, who have previously competed for a championship title, have experienced recent difficulties finding success in the octagon.
For Perez, who holds a record of 25 wins and 9 losses, he has secured only a single victory in his last five appearances. After snapping a three-fight losing streak (which included a defeat by then-champion Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255) with a knockout win over Matheus Nicolau, Perez subsequently returned to the loss column due to a knee injury sustained during his fight against Tatsura Taira in June 2024.
Steve Erceg, with a professional record of 12 wins and 4 losses, is also on a losing skid that began following his title challenge. The Australian standout dropped a competitive decision against current flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 301 and has since suffered defeats in his subsequent two fights against Kai Kara-France and Brandon Moreno.
