Sports news » Alex Pereira Says Controversial Retirement Tweet Was Result of Hack

Alex Pereira has clarified that a cryptic message recently posted on his social media, which suggested he was contemplating retirement, was in fact the result of a hack.

The message, which appeared on the X account of the former UFC light heavyweight champion “Poatan,” stated he had “already had thoughts of not fighting anymore” and felt “disheartened” with the UFC due to “things I’ve just heard.”

Just hours later, the Brazilian fighter stated the post was not his.

Speaking in Portuguese in a video shared on his Instagram page, Pereira explained he had received numerous messages about the tweet. He claimed he was unaware of the post and confirmed his account had been hacked, noting it had been a while since he last posted. Pereira emphasized his strong relationship with the UFC and suggested the incident was caused by individuals with malicious intent.

Pereira`s most recent fight was in March, where he lost the 205-pound title to Magomed Ankalaev. This was his first defeat since moving up to the light heavyweight division. “Poatan,” now a former UFC champion in two weight classes, has publicly expressed his desire for a rematch against Ankalaev, a sentiment the Russian fighter reportedly shares.
